SBS Expands Intelligent Design Platform with the Acquisition of GeoSpatial Innovations

Expanding our leadership in end-to-end intelligent design platforms for utilities

By Al Eliasen, President & CEO, SBS

We are excited to share an important milestone in the continued evolution of SBS.

Today, we announced the acquisition of GeoSpatial Innovations (GSI), a long-standing provider of distribution design, mobile, and vegetation management software for the power and utility industry. You can read the full press release here.

This combination brings together two organizations with a shared focus: enabling utilities and engineering teams to design, build, and maintain critical infrastructure more efficiently through intelligent, connected design workflows.

Expanding Intelligent Design from Distribution to Transmission

SBS has built its platform around automating and connecting engineering and design workflows across the full lifecycle of utility infrastructure, including distribution, transmission, substations, and broadband networks. GSI strengthens that platform with proven capabilities in distribution and transmission design and mobile workflows that extend design intelligence beyond the desktop.

Together, SBS and GSI enhance our ability to support utilities that need consistent, connected design practices across voltage levels and asset classes. As utilities modernize their networks and increase investment in grid hardening, expansion, and reliability, the need for aligned distribution and transmission design workflows continues to grow.

This acquisition supports that need by:

  • Extending intelligent design capabilities upstream and downstream across the network
  • Improving continuity of design data as projects move from planning through detailed engineering
  • Enabling better alignment between distribution, transmission, and substation design teams
  • Supporting large-scale programs where standardization, accuracy, and throughput are critical

Supporting Field-Connected Design Workflows

In addition to strengthening core engineering workflows, GSI brings experience connecting design data to field execution through mobile-enabled solutions. These capabilities help close the gap between engineering intent and real-world conditions, improving visibility, accuracy, and feedback across the project lifecycle.

By connecting office-based design with field-aware workflows, SBS continues to expand its ability to support utilities managing increasingly complex infrastructure programs.

A Shared Commitment to Utility Customers

Both SBS and GSI have built their businesses by working closely with utilities and engineering firms to solve real-world challenges. That commitment remains unchanged.

Customers can expect continued investment in the solutions they rely on today, along with a clear roadmap focused on deeper integration, broader network coverage, and continued innovation across distribution, transmission, and substation design.

Looking Ahead

This acquisition represents an important step forward in SBS’s strategy to provide an end-to-end intelligent design platform for critical infrastructure. By bringing GSI into the SBS family, we are reinforcing our focus on helping utilities modernize design workflows, improve data quality, and deliver projects with greater confidence and consistency.

We look forward to continuing the conversation with our customers and partners as we build the next generation of connected design solutions. If you’re interested in learning how SBS can help you with your design workflow, contact us here.
